Film criticism is a joke. Mainstream critics are Hollywood sycophants trying to get invites to the cocktail parties. Their opinions are mostly virtue signal divorced from rational processes. More and more, the casual filmgoer can reliably avoid films and shows praised by critics. The more universal the praise the less watchable the film.
Critics on the right tend to eschew intellectualism per se, as a reaction to 100 years of total leftist dominance of the ivory tower. Understandable but wrong. Marxism should not tarnish the very concept of ideology. Ethics is more than interpretations of a few Bible passages. We must lay bare the philosophical underpinnings of our enemies’ art, grounding our own aesthetic in more substantive philosophy.
